Here are the top five stories in Irving today:
- With winter break ending and kids heading back to school soon, North Texas school districts are considering questions raised by the surge in Omicron cases. Lori Brown reports that districts such as Dallas ISD and Richardson ISD are set to end mask mandates in January at a time when Dallas County Medical Society President says they're important. - There's a new spot in town to find "fresh off the grill" fajitas: Fajita Pete's in Las Colinas. It's the 25th iteration of the franchise and offers both catering and delivery. It's the second Fajita Pete's location opened by owner John Gonzalez; his first opened in Southlake. (Franchising.com)

- Irving Police Department reminds folks to use 9-1-1 only in an emergency situation. For complaints about New Years fireworks, the agency says, "Call 972-273-1010 if you witness people shooting fireworks off, can give the exact location and a description of the person who shot the fireworks off."
