Morning, Irving Metro! Let's get you all caught up to start this Sunday, October 31 off on an informed note. Here's everything worth knowing today in town.

First, today's weather:

Pleasant with plenty of sun. High: 79 Low: 52.

Here are the top stories today in Irving:

  1. Irving Weekly profiles Nimitz student Kasandra Gallaga, a future veterinary student and current enrollee in the veterinary sciences program. As part of the program, Gallaga interns at the Animal Service Clinic in Irving, where she gets to experience what life as a veterinarian is really like. "[Animals] can't advocate for themselves, so I want to be that for them," Gallaga says. (Irving Weekly)
  2. Heading to Hurst, Euless or Bedford anytime soon? If so, don't forget your wallet! JD Miles reports on a section of the TEXpress has become the most expensive area to drive in North Texas at as much as a $20 toll rate for single-occupant vehicles. Managers of the roadway say the price decreases when there's less congestion. (CBS Dallas / Fort Worth)
  3. Even as Dallas' mayor Eric Johnson faces a breakthrough case of COVID-19, Dallas County health officials have lowered the area's COVID-19 threat level. Now considered "moderate," the designation reflects an improving trend in overall cases. Dallas County Judge Clay Jenkins says that there was an uptick in cases during last year's holiday season, but that might not be the case this year with the good trend. (NBC 5 Dallas-Fort Worth)
  4. Head over to CultureMap Dallas to get a list of the openings and new menus in the Dallas area. Highlights include a family-owned coffee concept in Oak Cliff, a new menu for fall at Thirsty Lion and a well-lauded vineyard in Grand Prairie.
