🌱West Dallas Homicide 'Justifiable' + MacArthur Victim ID'd

Welcome back, Irving! Let's get you all caught up to start this Sunday, February 13 off on an informed note. Here's everything worth knowing today in town.


First, today's weather:

Here are the top five stories today in Irving:

  1. Check out a recap of Irving's winter storm response, available via the Press Release Desk. The recent winter storm that blanketed the city with a coat of snow and ice, but City agencies worked together to help keep things safe and orderly.
  2. Dallas Police classified a fatal shooting on Saturday in West Dallas as 'justifiable homicide.' Witnesses say that the victim, Gavino Lorta, 25, was approaching the shooter, Christopher Johnson, 26, with a loaded weapon just prior to the time of the shooting. The case will be referred to a Dallas County Grand Jury. (CBS Dallas / Fort Worth)
  3. A 19-year-old is dead after the Thursday shooting on MacArthur Boulevard in Irving. Police found the victim, now identified as Thayrion Mason, in his car after witnesses called emergency services. Click over to the FOX 4 Dallas article to see surveillance footage of the suspect's vehicle.
  4. Look forward to a new cajun restaurant in Oak Cliff within the next few months. The highly credentialed Restaurant Beatrice is set to open in the space formerly occupied by Jonathon's Oak Cliff. (CultureMap Dallas)
  5. Here's your heavy metal trivia/blast from the past moment, courtesy of the Dallas Morning News (subscription required). Pantera musician Vinnie Paul's Arlington home just sold to an anonymous buyer for just under $750,000.
