Today's riddle: What do you call a belt that is made of watches? 🤔 (Answer below!)
1. Digital signs focus of debate in Katy, Texas (digitalsignagetoday.com) — City leaders in Katy are rethinking the local sign ordinance after a business requested permission to install a digital sign, prompting a public workshop. Officials, led by Mayor Pro Tem Gina Hicks and Councilmember Paul Follis, gathered community feedback on where and how digital signs should be allowed, though no decisions have been made yet.
2. Katy adopts budget, lowers property tax rate (coveringkaty.com) — Katy residents will see a slightly lower city property tax rate this year as City Council adopts a $90.5 million budget effective October 1, with a rate of 42 cents per $100 valuation. Major funding boosts go to the Katy Police and Fire Departments, while the city keeps its maximum 20% homestead exemption and notes that rising property values may still increase individual tax bills.
3. City adds 3.43 acres to Katy Court Planned Development District for commercial purposes (coveringkaty.com) — Katy City Council has approved adding 3.43 acres to the Katy Court Planned Development District for future commercial use near Katy Hockley Cut-Off Road and De Petris Drive. The decision follows resident opposition and now includes limits on building height, a masonry wall, landscape buffer, and a ban on gas stations and convenience stores, alongside plans for a new traffic signal to improve safety.
4. Five years after voter approval, Katy's Snow Goose Trail construction set to begin (coveringkaty.com) — Work on the first 1.5 miles of Katy's long-awaited Snow Goose Trail is set to start in November, five years after voters approved funding. City officials outlined a multi-year plan for additional trail segments along Morton Road, 10th Street, Pitts Road, and Avenue C, eventually connecting neighborhoods to Katy's historic downtown while addressing residents' concerns about proximity to homes and safety.
5. Katy-Area Road Closure: US0290 (thekatynews.com) — Drivers in the Katy area should be prepared for an eastbound right-lane closure on US0290 today, September 30, from 8:47 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. TxDOT crews are making sign repairs, and officials urge motorists to allow extra time, watch for workers and traffic-control devices, and check DriveTexas for any changes to the schedule.
