• Liberty County approves property tax rate increase commissioners say will help fund jail (abc13.com) — Liberty County has approved a property tax rate increase from 48 to 54 cents per $100 valuation, largely to cover mounting jail costs and repairs that affect residents in and around Liberty. Officials say millions are needed for debt service, out-of-county inmate housing, and maintenance, even as the state funds a new jail that's still at least two years away.
   

• Billie Joyce Creel (bluebonnetnews.com) — A longtime Liberty-area resident, Billie Joyce Creel, has passed away, with visitation and funeral services set for Thursday morning at Hardin Baptist Church, followed by burial at Hardin Chapel Cemetery. Remembered for her years working for Liberty businesses, deep church involvement, and love of family gatherings, she leaves a large family and many local connections who are invited to pay their respects.
   

• David Louis Vyoral (seguintoday.com) — Liberty natives may remember David Louis Vyoral, who was born in Liberty in 1951 and later built a life centered on engineering, travel, and hands-on projects in Texas and beyond. Recently residing in Seguin and Rockport, he is remembered by family and friends for his creativity, love of the water, and civic-minded wishes for donations and voting.
