Here are the top stories today in McKinney-Frisco:
- A Collin County attorney is accused of impersonating a judge to extort money. Steven Weinstein was arrested last Monday after the Collin County Sheriff's office learned about the allegations. The sheriff says Weinstein was sending text messages to a victim and pretending to be a district judge. While executing a search warrant, deputies found cash, drugs, and fake FBI gear. Weinstein, who ran for a state district judge position in Denton County in 2016, has bonded out of jail on the impersonating charge. (FOX 4 Dallas)
- The city of Dallas estimates more than 17,000 criminal court cases are affected by two separate data loss events at the Dallas Police Department. A now-fired IT worker made a mistake in March that resulted in about four million files being lost. A later audit found a second event occurred that resulted in nearly five million more files lost. The city claims the data loss was a mistake, but the FBI is reviewing the circumstances at the request of Dallas police. (FOX 4 Dallas)
- The Texas House to vote on a redistricting map that could give Democrats a seat in Collin County. State House District 70, held by retiring Rep. Scott Sanford (R-McKinney), would shift to an area won by President Joe Biden in the last election. (NBC 5 Dallas-Fort Worth)
