Frisco ISD Celebrates 110 National Merit Semifinalists

Frisco ISD is proud to announce that 110 FISD high school seniors have been named 2022 National Merit Semifinalists. This is the largest contingent of FISD high school students in District history and the largest group in the area.

These talented students are among 16,000 in the nation named as Semifinalists in the National Merit Scholarship Program and now have an opportunity to continue in the competition for one of the 7,500 National Merit Scholarships that will be awarded in 2022.

These students began their National Merit journey when they took the 2020 Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test (PSAT/NMSQT®), which served as an initial screen.

The PSAT/NMSQT® is offered annually to Frisco ISD 10th and 11th grade students free of charge during the school day on each high school campus. All FISD 10th and 11th graders are registered to take the PSAT/NMSQT during the school day on Wednesday, Oct. 13, 2021. Learn how to prepare for the on-campus assessment.

The nationwide pool of Semifinalists represents less than one percent of U.S. high school seniors and includes students who show exceptional academic ability and potential for success in rigorous college studies. They must also earn comparable scores on any subsequent ACT and SAT exams that confirm their earlier PSAT performance.

To become a Finalist in February 2022, each Semifinalist will submit a detailed scholarship application, in which they provide information about their academic record, participation in school and community activities, demonstrated leadership abilities, employment, and honors and awards received. They must demonstrate an outstanding academic record throughout high school, be endorsed and recommended by a high school administrator and write an essay.

All National Merit Scholarship winners will be selected from this group of Finalists and announced in late spring and summer 2022. Merit Scholars will be selected on the basis of their skills, accomplishments and potential for success in rigorous college studies.

National Merit Scholars will be awarded scholarships from corporations, business organizations and possibly their college or university.
