Frisco ISD : FISD To Offer Hybrid And Online High School Classes In 2022-23

After years of advocating for online programming, Frisco ISD is thrilled to announce that starting with the 2022-23 school year high school students will have two additional ways to earn high school credit. Students will now have the option to engage in their learning as a full-time online student or as a hybrid student through the FISD+ program.

“This is something we have been working on for years and we are thankful that Senate Bill 15 has propelled us forward in this journey,” said FISD Superintendent Dr. Mike Waldrip. “We are always looking for ways to evolve while expanding opportunities for our students and staff.

“FISD+ provides a fresh and innovative approach to empower students to reach their personal best -- regardless of academic setting.” 

The online and hybrid FISD+ programs were developed to meet the growing needs of students and families. FISD+ will provide high school students the flexibility to learn at home with an FISD educator and curriculum in an online setting that meets and exceeds the Texas Education Agency standards.

Hybrid Program

The hybrid program will allow high school students to take classes online and on campus. Students will take their four “core” classes (English, math, science and social studies) online and will go to campus for all other classes, enabling them maximum access to FISD campus programming while also satisfying graduation requirements. Hybrid students are eligible to participate in UIL activities, fine arts, athletics, CTE programs and more.

Full-time Online Program

The full-time online program for high school students will allow students to take all of their classes online. Students will need to go to campus from time to time for science labs and to pick up required course materials. Students will have the ability to select classes from a menu of options. Through the rigorous curriculum, students will continue to have the opportunity to graduate with a Distinguished diploma with the choice of several endorsements. Online students will not be able to participate in UIL-based activities and competitions.

“Education is evolving and FISD students deserve the flexibility to engage with their learning in new and innovative ways with a District curriculum that encourages inquiry- and project-based learning,” said Tiffany Carey, director of innovative learning.“Teaching and learning will look different depending on the class but students can generally expect to work independently and collaboratively, while also frequently engaging with a teacher in live instruction.”
