Rezoning Timeline Set as Enrollment Continues to Increase

Enrollment in Frisco ISD schools has grown by about 2,400 students over the past year, including a jump of almost 1,400 students since the last day of the 2020-21 school year in May. The increase brings total enrollment in Frisco ISD to approximately 65,600 students, including the more than 8,300 students enrolled in the District’s online learning program. The increase comes as the District prepares to introduce proposed attendance boundaries for the 2022-23 school year, including those for two new schools, Panther Creek High School and Minett Elementary.

New Middle School Planned for Northwest Frisco

Construction on Frisco ISD’s 18th middle school is expected to begin in northwest Frisco later this year. The campus will open for the 2023-24 school year with attendance boundaries set next fall. The School Board recently got a look at the design of the campus, which will include spaces for collaboration and outdoor learning, in addition to a central commons area in lieu of a traditional cafeteria. The exterior of the campus will include stone, brick and exposed steel to fit with the nearby Panther Creek High School, PGA and other developments planned in the area.

Property Tax Rate to Drop Another Four Cents

The Frisco ISD Board of Trustees adopted the District’s 2021 property tax rate at the regular September Board meeting. The combined tax rate will be $1.2672 per $100 valuation, a more than four-cent drop from 2020 and the lowest it has been in more than 20 years. FISD’s tax rate has decreased a total of more than 17 cents since 2018 due to a state-mandated tax compression that limits revenue growth due to rising property values.

FISD Celebrates 110 National Merit Semifinalists

The Class of 2022 is making history. There are more Frisco ISD seniors recognized this year as Semifinalists in the National Merit Scholarship Program than ever before. FISD also has the largest group honored in the DFW area. The nationwide pool of Semifinalists represents less than one percent of U.S. high school seniors and includes students who show exceptional academic ability and potential for success in rigorous college studies.

Students and Staff Get Priority Access to Free COVID-19 Testing

Frisco ISD is partnering with an outside health provider to make sure students and staff have quick and convenient access to free PCR and antigen testing in the community. The Nomi Health COVID-19 testing site located at the northwest corner of Technology Drive and World Cup Way now has a priority access line for Frisco ISD staff and students.

In addition to expanding testing availability for students and families, the partnership will also ensure employees have access to regular rapid testing when they have been in close contact with someone who has tested positive, a state requirement. "We know the availability of COVID-19 testing plays an important role in response and mitigation efforts," said Brent Benningfield, FISD executive director of support services. “We are grateful that Nomi Health offered to provide a priority access line for our students and staff, which will benefit the health and safety of our campuses and the entire community.”
