Frisco ISD : Students And Staff Get Priority Access To Free COVID-19 Testing

Frisco ISD is partnering with Nomi Health, a direct healthcare company coordinating COVID-19 testing and vaccination efforts across the country, to make sure students and staff have quick and convenient access to free PCR and antigen testing in the community.

The Nomi Health COVID-19 rapid testing site located at the northwest corner of Technology Drive and World Cup Way now has a priority access line for Frisco ISD staff and students.

Through the drive-thru testing center, individuals can get a PCR or antigen COVID-19 test via a nasal swab. The organization estimates that the PCR results will be returned in 24-48 hours and the antigen in about 1 hour.

"We know the availability of COVID-19 testing plays an important role in response and mitigation efforts," said Brent Benningfield, FISD executive director of support services. “We are grateful that Nomi Health offered to provide a priority access line for our students and staff, which will benefit the health and safety of our campuses and the entire community.”

According to the FISD COVID-19 Disease Mitigation Guidelines, students and staff must quarantine when they have displayed symptoms consistent with COVID-19, as determined by the school nurse. They may not return to school until their symptoms have improved and they have met one of the following criteria:

• at least 10 days have passed since symptom onset

• the individual receives a negative test (proof of negative PCR or rapid test required; at-home tests will not be accepted)

This testing opportunity will also help campus staff meet the rapid testing requirement in accordance with Public Health Guidance issued Aug. 19 by the Texas Education Agency. The guidance requires campus staff who report close contact with an individual who has tested positive for COVID-19 to take a COVID-19 rapid test every other day for 10 days after the close contact. 

The full disease mitigation guidelines can be found on the District website along with calendar scenarios to help individuals know when they can return to campus.

Although testing will be at no cost to patients, insurance information will be requested of individuals who have insurance coverage. To access the priority lane, staff should arrive with their FISD staff ID badge and student IDs will be requested. Younger students without student IDs can simply identify themselves as Frisco ISD students.

The Nomi Health Frisco ISD priority access lane will be open everyday 6:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., though there will be periodic closures or early closures possible due to community events. Please check the Nomi website for the most up to date hours and dates. 

Students and staff are not required to use Nomi Health, but the District hopes that the FISD community will use this opportunity as one of many ways to “slow the spread.” The location is also open to the general public and there will be staff on site to help direct traffic.
