Here are the top stories today in McKinney-Frisco:

  1. Several Frisco Square streets will be closed today for two special events. The roads around Simpson Plaza will be closed between 7 a.m. and 5 p.m. for "Trick or Treat the Square" and there will be no vehicular access to the front of the Frisco Public Library. The roads around Grace Church, including Church St. between Page and Gordon Streets, Burnham St. west of Jacobs St., and eastbound Blairview St., will be closed between 8 a.m. and 3 p.m. for the church's Fall Festival. Drivers should plan alternate routes in these areas. (Press Release Desk)
  2. The Independence, a new workforce housing community in McKinney, is now accepting applications for leases. The development is offering apartments at a rent below market rate to qualifying workers who earn 50 to 70 percent of the McKinney area median income ($89,000 for a family of four). Located at 2150 Collin McKinney Parkway, The Independence is expected to open its first building in February 2022 with units ranging from one to four bedrooms and plenty of family-friendly community amenities.   3. Frisco’s Historic Downtown will be open late on Nov. 11 for its monthly Arts and Wine Walk, which features local crafts, live music, and raffle prizes. (Free: Flipboard; Subscription: The Dallas Morning News)
  4. Gateway Church is expanding its Frisco campus with a new sanctuary, a children’s section, and classrooms for the church’s spiritual growth program, Equip. Campus Pastor Kemtal Glasgow said Gateway is "more than just a building" in the Frisco community; "it’s a place for people from every nation to believe, become, belong, and build."   5. After a soft launch in June, Visit McKinney officially launched its new website during a Facebook Live event yesterday afternoon, and aims to be a resource for local residents and tourists alike to "learn more about McKinney and all there is to do here." (Visit McKinney)
