Here are the top three stories today in McKinney-Frisco:

  1. National Weather Service issued a hard freeze warning in effect through this morning for parts of North Texas. Forecasts have reported cold temperatures, heavy sleet and slick roads. Residents are encouraged to stay home, as major highways like NB 75 are shut down due to a jackknifed 18-wheeler. Stay tuned for live updates on closures, traffic and weather conditions. (WFAA)
  2. The City of McKinney is preparing residents for water service and plumbing emergencies as temperatures rise and pipes thaw. Additional crews remain on standby to respond to emergencies and requests related to leaks and broken pipes. The city website offers a checklist and resources for residents.   3. Investigators estimate $900,000 worth of damage due to a Frisco house fire that sparked in the fireplace and rose up to the attic, engulfing the roof. The fire occurred at a house in the 4100 block on San Gabriel Avenue on February 2nd, just past 9:00 PM. Two people at the home were quickly evacuated and no injuries were reported. (LocalNews8)

  • The McKinney Police Department is urging residents to stay home and avoid driving. The roadways are the most dangerous they have been all week. Crews are working hard to sand the overpasses and underpasses for your safety. (Facebook)
  • The City of Frisco will resume trash and recycling pick at 10:00 a.m. for customers with Thursday pickup only — if road conditions permit. Customers with Friday pickup will not have trash & recycling collected this week. Those with Friday service will be allowed to set out extra bags of trash and recycling and double the allowed amounts of yard waste next Friday, Feb. 11. (Facebook)
  • The City of McKinney will resume regular trash and recycling services on Monday, Feb. 7. Thursday and Friday customers will be allowed to put out additional trash and recycling in bags next to their containers on their scheduled pick-up day next week. Bulky item, yard waste, electronic waste and household hazardous waste pick-ups are suspended until Monday. (Facebook)
