Here are the top three stories today in McKinney-Frisco:
- Today marks the 101st birthday of former Frisco Mayor Bob Warren! The man known as "Mr. Frisco" was born and raised in the city before serving as its mayor for seven years. Mayor Bob, who moved to San Antonio last year to be closer to family, credits his longevity to his active lifestyle and his daily oatmeal breakfast. (Frisco Talk)
- Texas has long been known for its great barbecue, but good and affordable wood is becoming increasingly hard to find for the state's pitmasters. The issue stems from a lack of reliable supply chains alongside rising prices of lumber. Reportedly, McKinney's own Hutchins Barbecue has gone from paying $400 per cord of wood to $640, for a monthly bill of nearly $25,000. (Texas Standard)
- Six players were elected to the U.S. National Soccer Hall of Fame on Sunday. Four more will be inducted at the Hall in Frisco on May 21. To be elected, a candidate must receive at least 75% of the committee's votes. (Spectrum News)

Last week, we told you about our new favorite non-alcoholic go-to — the refreshingly bitter drinks from our partners at Betera. They’re chef-created from natural botanicals, lightly effervescent and worthy of life beyond “Dry January.” We mentioned that their Ginger-Orange was excellent; we’ve since tried Elderflower-Lime and loved it as well — light and floral with the perfect amount of zing. We're converts.
Enough of you took Betera up on their 15% discount on first orders for Patch Daily readers that they’ve extended the offer for another week. Use PATCH15 at checkout. Highly recommended — try Betera here.
