Here are the top stories in McKinney-Frisco today:

  1. Following the Oct. 27 death of former McKinney Mayor Bill Whitfield, local leaders, past and present, are reflecting on the lasting legacy he left on the city. Former Mayor Brian Loughmiller, who assumed office after Whitfield's second term ended in 2009, said his predecessor devoted 100 percent of his time to the city when it experienced fast growth, infrastructure issues, and a need for new road construction. Similarly, current Mayor George Fuller said Whitfield was involved in many initiatives "that really guided and set McKinney up for the success we're having today." (Star Local Media)
  2. McKinney officials are warning the public about a phone scam where the caller is posing as Collin County Sheriff's Office Lieutenant Steven Smart. The caller is telling people they failed to appear in court as a witness in a trial. The Sheriff's office reminds residents that law enforcement agencies will never call the public regarding a process, summons, or anything that would require them to send money. (Collin County Sheriff's Office)
  3. The statewide high school football scores and pairings have been announced for Friday's 2021 season playoffs. Several McKinney and Frisco teams will be facing off in both home and away games against local rivals. (Corpus Christi Caller-Times)
