Here are the top stories today in McKinney-Frisco:
- The McKinney Planning and Zoning Commission unanimously voted on Tuesday to rezone about 13 acres of land for a state-of-the-art multifamily housing development at the southeast corner of Wilmeth Drive and Community Avenue, near McKinney North High School. While the area was already zoned for multifamily housing, the rezoning would increase the density from 24 to 28 units per acre and increase the height of the building to three stories, City staff said. In return, the development would add more amenities and landscape enhancements to the apartment complex. The proposed apartments will be presented to the McKinney City Council next month. (Community Impact Newspaper)
- This week, Frisco ISD board members approved changes to a district policy that outlines the district's response to complaints about instructional materials made by FISD students, employees, and district residents. Instead of encouraging "informal resolution" on an individual basis, the updated policy outlines specific processes for reviewing and responding to complaints depending on whether the objection is for a campus-related resource, a district-related resource, or a library book. The new policy requires a 30 business-day timeline for a written report of the district's findings, and also allows the district to consolidate multiple objections from different campuses to the same material for one committee to review. - The 22nd annual Otsukimi Moon Viewing Festival, a celebration of Japanese culture sponsored by the Japan-America Society of Dallas/Fort Worth and the Crow Museum of Asian Art at The University of Texas at Dallas, will return to Frisco Square next Saturday, Nov. 20 from 6 to 9 p.m. (The Dallas Morning News)
- School board trustees finalized Frisco ISD's 2022-2023 attendance zones on Tuesday, which will help balance enrollment and resources at existing schools while preparing for the opening of the new Panther Creek High School and Minett Elementary School. (McKinney-Frisco Patch)
- The housing market in the McKinney-Frisco area shows no signs of cooling down, with three out of four homes still selling above listing price and median sale prices sitting 16 percent higher than this time last year. (McKinney-Frisco Patch)
