- On New Year's Eve, the windows of a unit at Kinwood Apartments in McKinney were blown out in a reported explosion. Although there was no fire in the apartment, the possible explosion inside activated the fire sprinklers and prompted the McKinney Fire Department to respond. The two people in the apartment were treated at the scene for minor injuries, and the incident is currently under investigation. (North Texas e-News)
- Beginning tomorrow (Jan. 4), the Love Life Foundation will be holding a winter coat drive at several locations throughout McKinney. New and gently used coats can be dropped off through Jan. 18 at Tupps Brewery, Brandon Tomes Volkswagen, Preston Trail Community Church, and Guitar Sanctuary. Monetary donations are accepted at lovelifefoundation.com/donate, or local residents may opt to purchase a new coat directly via the foundation's Amazon Smile Wishlist. (Visit McKinney)
- The past year was an impressive one across all sports for McKinney ISD. In 2021, McKinney student-athletes made lots of local sports headlines, including playoff success and championships won at the district and state levels. According to Star Local Media's roundup, some highlights of the year include McKinney North alumnus Ronald "RoJo" Jones II winning the Super Bowl with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, a first-time district championship for the Lady Bulldogs volleyball team, and a perfect 12-0 mark in district play for the McKinney boys' basketball team.
