Excellence in Maintenance Award
The department was awarded the Excellence in Maintenance award for it’s Urban Forest Tree Inventory and Conservation Program developed to help ensure that future conservation and maintenance are both efficient and cost-effective, preserving the valuable urban forest for Frisco citizens. The system, implemented earlier this year, allows staff to track watering, fertilization, pruning needs, growth, potential disease, diversity of species, and more through a computer platform complete with GIS mapping. Frisco is also recognized as a Tree City USA by the Arbor Day Foundation for its efforts in maintaining and developing Frisco’s urban forest.

Excellence in Communications
When the doors to The Grove at Frisco Commons closed due to risk of exposure to the coronavirus, the staff was forced to program outside the box. With the assistance of the Play Frisco marketing team, The Grove at Frisco Commons Facebook Group launched in May with virtual programs such as a 30-Day Wellness Challenge, cooking demos, weekly updates with “The Grove Girls”, Win-it-Wednesdays, crafts, and more, giving members a way to stay connected to each other and staff. The group has close to 500 members who remain active in this online community helping to improve health and well-being during a challenging time.
