  1. In district court this week, Collin County prosecutors argued the 16-year-old boy accused of killing his mother, Stacy Barney, should stand trial as an adult, facing tougher penalties if he is convicted of murder. The state argued the boy has already reached a point in his life where he cannot be rehabilitated and must face adult consequences, which in this case could stack up to decades if not life in prison.   2. McKinney ISD released its proposed site plans for its newest elementary school. Construction on Elementary School No. 22, which is currently unnamed, is expected to start in March of 2022, according to meeting documents. The school district anticipates a total cost of approximately $35 million, which includes construction, furniture, permitting, and other expenses. (Community Impact Newspaper)
  3. Underwood Law Office in McKinney recently announced University of Maryland student, Emily Eason, as the recipient of its $1,000 Community Leadership Scholarship. The award was created to highlight and reward young people who help improve local communities.
