Here are the top stories in McKinney-Frisco today:
- A state district judge has decided that 16-year-old Adam Barney of McKinney will stand trial as an adult for the accused murder of his mother. In January, a security camera in the family's home captured Barney, then 15, as he bludgeoned Stacey Barney with a hammer and choked her during an attack that lasted several minutes. Judge Cynthia McCrann Wheless found that Barney displayed maturity and sophistication while planning and carrying out the crime, and noted that the teen "displayed no hesitation during the killing." - The city of McKinney looking to incentivize housing initiatives that will allow potential employees to afford to live there. City council members are working to address the housing needs identified in a 2020 analysis, including more affordable rentals for residents earning less than $35,000 and starter homes and workforce housing priced near or below $200,000. McKinney Chamber of Commerce President Lisa Hermes said she applauds the city’s efforts to "work towards a balanced housing stock in the city both for the present and future." (Star Local Media)
