2-Year-Old Drowns In Backyard Pool: Reports

Paramedics gave the girl CPR on the way to Texas Children's Hospital.

HOUSTON, TX — A 2-year-old girl died Tuesday after she wandered off during a visit with family members, fell into a backyard swimming pool and drowned, according to media reports.

Firefighters arrived at the home in the 5700 block of South Braeswood Boulevard shortly after 1 p.m., where they found Darby Morton in the pool.

Paramedics performed CPR on the toddler en route to Texas Children's Hospital, an official with the Houston Fire Department told the Houston Chronicle.

According to the Houston police, the girl was able to slip outside while her mother was inside the home, KTRK-TV ABC13 reported.

The toddler was with her family visiting friends at the house on Braeswood when she wandered off, fell into the pool and drowned, KPRC-TV Channel 2 reported.

The police said the girl's relatives may have been asleep when she wandered off, but family members said they were talking with their friends when she managed to make it outside and they didn't notice.

The police are treating the death as an accident, according to ABC13.
