Odessa police search for woman accused of stealing cosmetics from HEB (firstalert7.com) — Odessa police are asking for the public's help identifying a woman accused of stealing more than $1,200 in cosmetics from the HEB on E. 42nd Street. Investigators say she left in a white Toyota SUV and are urging anyone with information to contact Detective Y. Rincon or Odessa Crime Stoppers.
2. New $3.6M children's park coming to Odessa Sports Complex in honor of Amy Bell (firstalert7.com) — A new eight-acre children's park called Amy's Park is coming to the Odessa Sports Complex, funded by a $3.6 million gift from the Bell family in memory of their daughter Amy. The park will feature a splash pad, playground, ranch-themed attractions, and a preserved family pecan tree, and city leaders expect it to become a regional destination for Odessa families once construction is complete.
3. City of Odessa criticized on spending, tax increases during budget proposal hearing (yourbasin.com) — Odessa's proposed 2026–2027 city budget would raise property taxes slightly and increase water rates 3.3% to help fund pay raises for city employees, especially police and fire. Residents voiced concerns at a public hearing about higher costs and the possible sale of land that includes the Odessa Mountain Bike Trail, while council prepares for September budget and tax votes.
4. Odessa College invites community to 30 for 30 Fitness Challenge Kickoff (star-telegram.com) — Odessa College is inviting students, staff, and community members to a 30 for 30 Fitness Challenge kickoff on Saturday, Aug. 29 at 7 p.m. at the newly enhanced Softball and Tennis Complex. Attendees can register for the month-long activity challenge, enjoy pickleball, explore upgraded facilities under new lighting, and pick up T‑shirts and learn about prizes like workout gear and gift cards.
5. High Sky auctions four tickets to sold-out Sugar Ray concert in Odessa (star-telegram.com) — High Sky Children's Ranch is auctioning four tickets to its sold-out Sugar Ray benefit concert set for September 17 at La Estancia in Odessa. Bidding runs through September 7, with proceeds helping fund crucial services for vulnerable children and families across the region.
