ECISD police mounted patrol horse dies after cancer battle (firstalert7.com) — ECISD Police in Odessa are mourning Maximus, the beloved mounted patrol horse who recently died after a battle with cancer. Officers say Max played a key role in building the Mounted Patrol Division and connecting police with students, staff, and families at campuses and community events, and they're asking residents to keep his caretakers in their thoughts.
   

2. HIGH SCHOOL FOOTBALL NOTEBOOK: OHS back at home for the first time in nearly a month (oaoa.com) — Odessa High finally returns to Ratliff Stadium this Friday for homecoming, hosting Arizona Compass Prep at 7 p.m. after three straight road games and a 2-2 start. Coaches say the Bronchos are focused on fixing offensive inconsistencies, feeding off the home crowd, and matching the strong performance Permian showed against the same opponent last week.
   

3. City of Odessa transitions ambulance billing to third-party provider (firstalert7.com) — Odessa residents who need an ambulance will soon see their bills handled by Emergicon, a third‑party medical billing company, instead of the city. Starting Oct. 1, Odessa Fire Rescue's EMS bills will feature both city and Emergicon logos, with officials saying the switch should improve efficiency and customer service as call volumes grow.
   

4. Man, 3 juveniles arrested after stolen car found in Odessa (firstalert7.com) — Odessa police arrested a 25‑year‑old man and three juveniles after finding a stolen Pontiac Grand Prix near 8th Street and West Loop 338 early Saturday. Officers say all four tried to run but were caught and now face organized criminal activity, vehicle theft, and evading charges, with the adult also charged over suspected cocaine possession.
   

5. Health experts shed light on chronic pain during Pain Awareness Month (yourbasin.com) — From Odessa, local specialists are using Pain Awareness Month to remind residents that chronic pain affects tens of millions of Americans and can quietly shape daily life and mental health. A Midland Spine and Joint Surgery Center physician encourages people with ongoing back, neck, joint, or nerve pain to seek evaluation and learn about treatment options instead of suffering in silence.
