Odessa man arrested following alleged robbery; victim left with multiple gunshot wounds (newswest9.com) — An Odessa resident was hospitalized with life-threatening injuries after being shot multiple times during an alleged home robbery near Patterson Avenue and Myrtle Street. Ector County deputies say the victim identified 24-year-old Jonathan Tyrus McCollum as one of two suspects, and McCollum has now been arrested and charged with aggravated robbery, with bond set at $75,000.
2. Weekend street race leads to overturned vehicle and 3 hospitalized in Odessa (newswest9.com) — Three people were hospitalized in Odessa after police say a high-speed street race on West 16th Street ended with a Jeep Wrangler rolling into a front yard. Officers determined speed caused the violent crash and arrested driver Daniel Pando Martinez, who now faces a charge of racing on a highway causing serious bodily injury and remains jailed on a $15,000 bond.
3. Fuel Your School relaunches, donates $12K to LBJ Elementary in Odessa (yourbasin.com) — LBJ Elementary in Odessa just received over $12,000 in new literacy and STEM materials through the relaunched Fuel Your School program, and more local schools can now benefit. Through November 1, ECISD educators in Odessa and Midland can request up to $1,000 for classroom projects on DonorsChoose, with Chevron and Kent Kwik pledging up to $50,000 in total support.
4. Medical Center Hospital launches prehospital whole blood program, earns Level II trauma reverification (firstalert7.com) — Medical Center Hospital in Odessa has launched a new prehospital whole blood program that puts lifesaving blood units directly on regional ambulances, improving survival chances for trauma patients. The hospital also secured reverification as the Permian Basin's only Level II trauma center through 2028, reinforcing its role as the main destination for serious injuries across West Texas and southeastern New Mexico.
5. ECISD bus drivers, custodians honored at appreciation dinner (firstalert7.com) — ECISD bus drivers and custodians in Odessa were treated to an appreciation dinner hosted by John and Carol Bushman and the ICA team, recognizing their often-overlooked work for local students. Staff filled a hall at the MCM Elegante Hotel, where speakers emphasized how vital transportation and custodial workers are to the district and how much families value their daily care for children.
