(pasadenian.com) — Families in Pasadena still have a short window to grab the last few player and coach spots in Pasadena Little League before registration closes. The league is recruiting across divisions and also welcomes volunteers from nearby Deer Park and La Porte, giving local kids a chance to get on the field this season.
   

2. Rev up for a new ride and a new pet at Fueled by Love Adoption Day. (pasadenian.com) — Pasadena residents can check out adoptable dogs and shop for cars at the Fueled by Love Adoption Day this Thursday, Aug. 27, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Mi Tierra Auto Sales II on Spencer Highway. Fosters are invited to bring their pups, and visitors might leave with both a new vehicle and a new four-legged family member.
   

3. Governor Abbott Appoints Nielsen To State Board Of Education (texas.gov) — Pasadena resident and community leader Tammie Nielsen has been appointed by Gov. Greg Abbott to represent District 4 on the State Board of Education through 2026. Nielsen is deeply involved locally, serving on the Pasadena Library Board, Livestock Show and Rodeo committee, and Chamber of Commerce, giving Pasadena a strong voice in statewide education decisions.
   

4. Texas adds 1,600 jobs in July as private-sector employment grows (fox4news.com) — New state labor data show the Houston–Pasadena–The Woodlands area added about 4,400 employed residents in July, with unemployment dipping slightly to 5.1%. Overall, Texas added 1,600 nonfarm jobs last month and 165,600 over the past year, driven by private education, health services, and professional sectors.
