Fire Erupts In Pasadena Grocery Store

Fire officials believe the fire started near the bakery as employees were closing the store Friday night.

PASADENA, TX — Shoppers at the Mi Tienda grocery store in Pasadena were forced to evacuate after a fire erupted inside the store Friday night.

Firefighters from Pasadena and South Houston were called out to the 1600 block of Spencer Highway near Shaver Road at about 10 p.m.

Officials said employees were closing the store while shoppers were still inside, when fire erupted near the bakery, KPRC reported.

Customers and employees were evacuated from the store with no injuries being reported, according to a Houston Chronicle report.

On Saturday spokesperson for Mi Tienda issued the following statement:
“The safety and security of our customers is our top priority at Mi Tienda. While it appears that last night’s fire at Mi Tienda, Pasadena, started in one of our lease spaces, it is under investigation. All customers and employees were quickly evacuated without injury. Today, we are assessing the damage and preparing the store to open tomorrow.”

The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
