Houston Man Is Killed In Rollover Accident

Police said the SUV rolled several times, and ejected the driver who was pronounced dead at the scene.

HOUSTON, TX -- A man who led police on a high speed chase in from Channelview to east Houston, was killed when he lost control and crashed.

The incident began at about 12:30 a.m., in the 15900 block of Avenue D in Channelview when officers tried to pull over a white Ford Explorer for failing to dim his lights to oncoming traffic, and driving with an expired registration. (Sign up for Patch’s daily newsletter for your neighborhood.)

Police said the driver, identified as Anthony Garcia, took off and led police on a chase, reaching speeds of 100 miles per hour.

Police said the followed Garcia onto Beltway 8, and that as Garcia was attempting to exit to Old Beaumont Highway onto the feeder road, when he hit a curb and began to slide sideways.

Investigators said the SUV rolled at least five times, and Garcia was ejected from his vehicle and died at the scene.

Investigators are working to determine of alcohol was a factor.
