Iconic Baytown Bakery Burns To The Ground
Investigators believe the fire that destroyed the C&D Grocery And Bakery may have been caused by a faulty gas line.

BAYTOWN, TX — A family-owned business in downtown Baytown was gutted by fire early Wednesday morning.
Firefighters were called to the iconic C&D Grocery and Bakery at about 1 a.m. in the 2500 block of Main Street.
When firefighter arrived, they found the kitchen area in the back of the building consumed by flames.

Firefighters managed to keep the flames from spreading, but the flames took a toll on the aging structure, when a section of the wall collapsed, KTRK reported.
Investigators believe the fire was accidental and may have been caused by a faulty gas line, KPRC reported.

Known in the area for their tacos, pan dulces and amazing customer service, C&D Grocery and Bakery has been a community institution since the Perez family opened their doors in 1985.
It was a meeting place for breakfast most mornings where patrons could talk over breakfast tacos and a hot cup of coffee, and where neighbors met up with neighbors.
Family members have vowed to rebuild the grocery and bakery.
Damages are estimated at about $500,000.
