Pasadena Man Killed When Large Bolt Smashes Windshield [UPDATED]

Police: Man who was killed is identified as Paul Hoffman, 60, who was a Pasadena resident

(Updated) LA PORTE, TX -- A man was killed Thursday afternoon when a large piece of metal road debris came crashing through his windshield as he was driving south on State Highway 146.

Police said Paul Hoffman, 60, of Pasadena, was killed when a large 10-inch bolt smashed through the windshield of his Ford SUV, hitting him in the neck.

The force of the impact caused him to lose control and crash into the side of the concrete barrier along Highway 146 near Wharton Weems Blvd.

Hoffman later kdied at an area hospital.

Police said when they arrived, Hoffman was found unresponsive and the injury to his neck was significant.

He was taken to Clear Lake Regional Hospital in critical condition, and later died.

Police believe the bolt is a twistlock that is used on contain trucks.

Police believe the twistlock came off of a northbound truck and are asking for help.
