La Porte Police Arrest Couple on Narcotics, Weapons Charges

Pair arrested as the left a Kroger grocery store as a result of lengthy undercover investigation.

LA PORTE, TX -- A man and a woman were arrested on narcotics charges as they were leaving a La Porte area grocery store Monday.

According to the La Porte Police Department, Steven Martin, 35, of Reserve, La., and 26-year-old Allene Griffith, of Houston, were taken into custody in the parking lot of Kroger in the 1300 block of West Fairmont Parkway.

The Houston Chronicle reports that investigators seized $3,000 cash, a semi-automatic pistol and illegal prescription narcotics, including morphine and dilaudid pills from Martin and Griffith.

Martin is charged with unlawful carrying a firearm by a felon and delivery of a controlled substance while Griffith is charged with possession of a controlled substance with intent to deliver.

The charges and subsequent arrests came after a lengthy undercover operation by the La Porte Police Department.
