CHANNELVIEW, TX -- A man who barricaded himself inside a Channelview home daycare after evading arrest and shooting at deputies is in police custody, ending a three-hour standoff with SWAT. Police arrested the 19-year-old suspect, whom they discovered hiding inside the home after evacuating eight children and two adults from the home daycare facility.
The incident began just before noon when constables tried to pull over a car for a minor traffic violation. Instead of pulling over, the driver led police on a short chase and ultimately crashed the car near Mincing and Ambrosden.
Police said the driver bailed out after the crash, firing several shots at deputies as he ran away, leaving a woman and an infant behind. The man ran to a home in the 1400 block of Ledenhall and barricaded himself inside. Police later learned that the house, which also serves as a daycare, belonged to his grandmother, KHOU reported.
