The Music Educator Award was established to recognize public and private school educators who have made a significant and lasting contribution to music education. Additionally, the award recognizes educators who demonstrate a commitment to the broader cause of maintaining music education in schools.

Semifinalists for the award will be announced in September 2020 and from those, one recipient will be selected to receive the award. If Erickson is selected as the winner, he will be flown to Los Angeles to attend the 63rd Annual GRAMMY Awards, along with other GRAMMY Week events.
