Amber Macneish, PE, health and wellness coordinator, echoed Neff’s sentiments.

“We are so proud of the work these campuses are doing to ensure that their students, staff and families are healthy,” Macneish said.

In addition to their status as one of “America’s Healthiest Schools,” Red Bluff and Sparks also received the organization’s first-ever Family Engagement Distinction award. Both campuses are among only 96 schools selected receive the national recognition.

Sponsored by Kohl’s and the Alliance for a Healthier Generation, the Family Engagement distinction honors schools that strive to strengthen the partnership between families and educators.

While the submission data for this new distinction was received prior to COVID-19, these efforts helped to set a solid foundation to help weather the pandemic as schools toggled between in-person and remote learning.

“Parents and caregivers are the bedrock to building healthy home environments that will help children thrive,” said Tara Geiter, Kohl’s director of community relations.

“We congratulate these award-winning schools for their commitment to building stronger relationships with families, and for engaging them in health-promoting solutions to bolster the physical, social and emotional well-being of students – especially during such a tumultuous year.”
