• Cause remains unknown after veterans memorial falls in Plainview cemetery (myplainview.com) — A longtime veterans memorial at Plainview Cemetery recently toppled and shattered, and officials still don't know why the massive granite monument fell. The Plainview Cemetery Association is planning a replacement and inviting tax-deductible donations from residents at the Joliet Street office or by mail, emphasizing the memorial's importance in honoring local veterans.
   

• Wayland Baptist awarded $498k federal grant to expand mental health support (everythinglubbock.com) — Wayland Baptist University's Plainview campus has secured a four-year, $498,400 federal grant to expand mental health and suicide-prevention services for local students. The funding, matched by the university through 2030, will add counseling staff, specialized expertise and advanced training for faculty and staff, significantly increasing access to crisis and mental health support in Plainview.
   

• Voting underway for next round of Athlete of the Week (myplainview.com) — Plainview sports fans can now vote for this week's Athlete of the Week, with a Plainview High senior among the nominees and online ballots open through Thursday at noon. The Herald's contest highlights standout performances from Plainview, Hale Center, Abernathy and Wayland Baptist athletes, and locals can submit future nominees by Sunday evenings via phone, text, email or hotline.
