City Of Plano To Host Active Shooter Training

Experiencing an active shooter is terrifying, but proper training can help you react appropriately, stay calm and keep safe.

PLANO, TX — There's no way to predict when an active shooter situation might happen, but a little preparation can go a long way toward a safer outcome. That's why police in Plano are offering free training to educate the public on these high-risk situations.

If you're interested in learning about reacting to emergency situations, sign up online, then go to the Plano Event Center on Dec. 20 at 6:30 p.m. The training event will last about two hours and teach attendees the strategies of "Avoid, Deny, Defend" and "Run, Hide, Fight."

Training material will be provided by ALERRT Center at Texas State University and the U.S. Department of Homeland Security.
