Plano Police Department Now Offering Lateral Pay Placement
Officers can start at a higher pay step based on verified experience.
For the first time, the Plano Police Department is offering lateral pay placement for experience law enforcement officers.
The department put a notice about the change in a Tuesday social media post.
According to the post, qualifying officers will start at a higher (up to the five-year or 60-month) pay-step based on verified experience. Successful applicants will have a minimum of two years as a full-time police officers.

Out-of-state experience qualifies and there are modified academy opportunities for qualified officers. Officers can earn up to $114,592.
Candidates must have a minimum of 60 college hours with three years of active military service, or a minimum of 60 college hours with two years of police officer experience.

"Your experience shouldn't start over," the post states. "Join the premier law enforcement agency in Texas and receive credit for the career you've already built."
A civil service exam is being held by the Plano Police Department on Saturday, July 25. The test will take place at 8:30 a.m. at the Plano Event Center Northbrook Room (2000 E. Spring Creek Pkwy).
