Sinless Slate: Plano Ranks Low Among Sinful Cities

A WalletHub study finds Plano among least sinful cities. The town ranked especially low in laziness, anger and vices.

PLANO, TX — Plano has been on the radar as a significant city in Texas for quite some time. Home to Toyota, State Farm and other large corporations, Plano has long-since been known as the capitol of the Silicon Prairie. But a study from WalletHub has given the city something else to boast — a sinless slate.

WalletHub's latest study, "2017’s Most Sinful Cities in America," found a number of Texas cities ranked particularly well among the 182 largest cities in the United States, but only one ranked better than Plano on the sin index, and that was Brownsville.

Coming in at 177, only five spots from the least sinless city in the U.S., Plano boasts an overall sin score of 31.24. This number alone doesn't mean much, but it comes form an amalgamation of scores from different categories. Here's how Plano ranked in each:

  • Anger & Hatred: 169
  • Jealousy: 105
  • Excess & Vices: 168
  • Greed: 146
  • Lust: 135
  • Vanity: 72
  • Laziness: 177

Also factored into this auspicious list are hate crimes and hate groups per capita, the number of sex crimes committed, obesity as well as the number of fast food establishments per capita, the number of adult drinkers of adult beverages, coffee drinkers, smokers, the number of strip clubs, the calculation of teen birth rates in certain areas, and where to find the most active Tinder users, were also among the criteria.

The index score was derived from the combined scores of each category that were averaged. The Texas cities that made the list are:

Arlington was awarded a raw score of 41.34, which included high marks for Excesses and Vices, and laziness. Meanwhile, although Garland and Plano are not quite as squeaky clean as Brownsville, they came pretty close based on the lack of adult entertainment establishments in their city limits.
