2 Georgetown Officers Shot, Teen Suspect Killed In Confrontation
Police responded to a home burglary call along Garden Meadow Drive late Tuesday before exchanging gunfire with the suspect who was killed.
WILLIAMSON COUNTY, TX — Two police officers in Georgetown, Texas, are recovering from injuries following an overnight shooting that left a teenage suspect dead, officials confirmed. The 16-year-old suspect, police added, lived in the house that was reported being burglarized late Tuesday night.
The Georgetown Police Department received a 9-1-1 call just before 11:20 p.m. alerting to a possible break-in at a home along the 700 block of Garden Meadow Drive. The caller said the suspect had fled the scene into the darkness, police told Patch in an email sent Wednesday morning.
"As the first officer arrived, he was almost immediately engaged with gun fire from the suspect," a police department spokesperson wrote. "The officer returned fire and was shot in each of his upper legs in the high thigh area."

A second officer arrived to witness the exchange of gun fire, exited her vehicle and came under fire herself from the suspect, the department spokesperson said. The spokesperson added the second officer returned gunfire and struck the suspect, but not before she was shot in the foot.
The suspect died at the scene, the spokesperson confirmed. Both officers were transported to Seton Williamson Hospital, according to the spokesperson, where they were listed in stable condition before being released. By Wednesday afternoon, the Georgetown Police Department identified the two officers as Colby Rodgers and Ashley Wall, both of whom have less than three years' experience as peace officers with the Georgetown Police Department — the former with the force since June 18, 2018, and the latter since Oct. 2, 2017 — officials said.

Both officers are currently on paid administrative leave pending the outcome of an investigation, which is customary after officer-involved shootings.
Police said the dead suspect was a 16-year-old male who resided at the address where the burglary that prompted the police call was taking place, officials said. Given his status as a minor, police added, his name will not be released.
Although a full investigation has yet to take place, police said they believe the teenager was the caller on the initial 9-1-1 call reporting the burglary as a ruse to ambush responding officers. "Initial investigative information indicates the suspect was the caller on the initial 9-1-1 conversation, and it was his intent to intentionally summon officers to that location in an attempt to ambush them and force them into an armed conflict," Georgetown police said.
An investigation continues with assistance from the Williamson County District Attorney's Office, Williamson County Sheriff's Office and Texas Department of Public Safety Rangers Division, the spokesperson added.
Georgetown is the county seat of Williamson County located some 30 miles north of Round Rock.
