1. 1 dead, 3 others injured in Round Rock crash involving dump truck (fox7austin.com) — A deadly crash involving three vehicles and a dump truck in Round Rock has left one person dead and three others with non-life-threatening injuries. Police have closed Chandler Road in both directions and part of County Road 119, urging drivers to avoid the area while the investigation continues.
2. Round Rock school police face another leadership change (statesman.com) — Round Rock ISD is searching for yet another police chief, its fifth leader in six years, as students return to school and the district struggles to fully staff its young police department. Ongoing turnover, officer shortages, and an unfunded state mandate for armed officers on every campus mean the district is again seeking a safety exception while trying to stabilize leadership and culture.
3. Manor, Round Rock ISDs launch virtual high school programs for at-home learning (cbsaustin.com) — Round Rock ISD has launched a tuition-free virtual high school option, giving local families flexible online or hybrid learning without leaving the district. About 200 Round Rock students are already enrolled, with leaders stressing close monitoring, full access to district supports, and a willingness to move teens back to campus if virtual learning isn't working for them.
4. Development requirements for medium-density housing updated in Round Rock (communityimpact.com) — Round Rock City Council has updated its zoning and development standards for medium-density housing, aiming to make new projects more financially feasible while still shaping how they look and function. Officials say outdated 2012-era rules were discouraging needed housing construction, even as population growth and demand for homes in Round Rock continue to rise.
5. Pflugerville gun store break-in: Teens arrested for stealing 34 firearms, fleeing in stolen vehicle (fox7austin.com) — A multi-agency investigation into a July gun store burglary in Pflugerville, where 34 firearms were stolen, has led to the arrest of two teens with ties to other Central Texas crimes. Investigators say the stolen Audi SUV used in the heist was picked up by license plate readers in Round Rock shortly before the break-in, linking the case to a broader crime spree.
