1. Round Rock ISD anticipates $23.6M deficit for FY 2025-26 (communityimpact.com) — Round Rock ISD is facing a projected $23.6 million deficit that will cut its fund balance to roughly 30 days of operating expenses, raising concerns about state financial ratings. Leaders blame higher insurance costs, payroll overruns and reduced property tax revenue from protests, and warn there's no longer a cushion to soften future budget decisions.
2. Rail projects, highway expansions: 6 Austin metro transportation updates (communityimpact.com) — A key Round Rock project to extend Eagles Nest Street toward west Round Rock and eventually connect to Mays Street is moving ahead, with the first construction contract recently bid out. Future plans include a new I-35 crossing, which could significantly change local traffic patterns once later phases are funded and built.
3. Child exploitation operation in Central Texas leads to arrest of 6 men (fox7austin.com) — Law enforcement in Central Texas recently ran a multi-agency sting targeting adults suspected of seeking illegal sexual contact with children online, resulting in six arrests, including two men from Round Rock. The Hutto-led operation focused on suspects believed to be pursuing minors under 15, and investigators say more charges could follow as evidence is reviewed.
4. Georgetown ISD partners with Next Level Medical amidst rising healthcare costs (communityimpact.com) — Georgetown ISD employees will soon get free access to Next Level Medical clinics, including the Round Rock location, as the district tries to rein in fast-rising healthcare costs. By covering monthly premiums and adding cost-saving partners, officials hope to avoid cutting deeper into paychecks and stabilize future benefits spending.

CROSS COUNTRY: Freshman helps Salado finish 3rd in Vista Ridge girls meet (kdhnews.com subscription) — Round Rock's girls cross-country runners figured prominently in a stacked field at the Vista Ridge Invitational, tying Austin Vandegrift in points before losing the team title on a tiebreaker.
