Round Rock ISD certifying educators through grow-your-own programs (communityimpact.com) β Round Rock ISD is relying on "grow-your-own" programs to help uncertified teachers earn full state certification while still filling classrooms this school year. With new state rules phasing out certification exemptions by 2027-28, the district's RRock Teach and apprenticeship programs are covering most training costs and creating new pathways for local staff to become certified educators.

2. $82M Hwy. 79 widening prepares for next step in Round Rock (communityimpact.com subscription) β An $82 million project to widen 2.5 miles of Hwy. 79 through Round Rock, from I-35 to A.W. Grimes, is nearing its next approvals. TxDOT is taking public comments through Sept. 16 as it finalizes designs for added lanes, a raised median, intersection changes and new shared-use paths that will reshape a key commuter corridor.

3. 1 found dead in Round Rock; suspect at large: WCSO (fox7austin.com) β A homicide investigation is underway in Round Rock after deputies found a person dead late Monday morning in the park area of the 2400 block of Chandler Creek Boulevard. Williamson County Sheriff's Office says the suspect, a man with short dreadlocks and frosted tips, is considered dangerous and urges anyone who recognizes him to call 911 and not approach.

Central Texas fire crews help with statewide wildfire outbreak (fox7austin.com) β Round Rock firefighters are among several Central Texas crews deployed to help battle large wildfires burning in Palo Pinto and Sutton counties. Led by Travis County ESD 1's chief, the strike team is part of a 600-plus person statewide response, and officials say state funding ensures local fire coverage in Round Rock remains fully staffed while crews are away.
