Animal Boarding Sites React to Dog Flu Outbreak
Kennel operators take extra precautions following flu-driven closure at one site.

ROUND ROCK, TX -- An outbreak of dog flu in Round Rock has led to the closure of one boarding facility and prompted other operators to take extra precautions.
The manager of Camp Bow Wow, a dog daycare center at 13900 Interstate 35, told KEYE-TV of extra precautions her staff have implemented following the recent closure of a competitor. The Hip Hounds boarding facility at 1912 Picadilly Dr. recently closed for cleaning until Friday after dogs there tested positive for flue symptoms, according to the KEYE-TV report.
Officials at Hip Hounds told KEYE-TV at least two dozen canines were showing signs of dog flu.

At camp Bow Wow, staff is taking extra precautions through such steps as washing bowls twice daily. So far, no dog flu has been detected at the Bow Wow facility, the manager there said.
While dog flu is rarely fatal to affected animals, it can lead to complications. According to pets.webmd, flu can turn into pneumonia and make the condition more serious. Once infected, puppies and older dogs are more susceptible to becoming severely ill once infected.
