Child Hospitalized After Nearly Drowning At Round Rock Pool
No lifeguard reportedly was on duty at Springbrook Center Neighborhood Pool on Chalice Well Drive when toddler experienced distress.
ROUND ROCK, TX — A toddler was hospitalized in critical condition after nearly drowning at a neighborhood pool on Sunday, according to reports.
Pflugeville police told KXAN the 2-year-old likely slipped when his family members weren't watching at the Springbrook Center Neighborhood Pool, 3200 Chalice Well Dr. Medics rushed the child to an area hospital after regaining his pulse, according to the report.
As posted on signs, according to the report, there was no lifeguard on duty at the pool that is now chained shut in the incident's aftermath. The pool has a Round Rock address but is within the Pflugervlle police jurisdiction, as is the neighborhood located in Travis County.

The incident underscored the need to watch children in pools at all times, as they react differently than adults when in distress while in the water. While older individuals will yell for help while drowning, children will be silent while struggling to tread water and breathe. Drownings among children can happen virtually in a blink of an eye, and emergency officials have advised parents and guardians to watch for any aberrant behavior among children that could indicate drowning.
Such was the case in Cedar Park last month when a child tragically died after sustaining injuries from a near-drowning at a community pool there. Police on June 4 responded to Buttercup Pool, 411 Twin Oak Trail, in Cedar Park where a 5-year-old was rescued before dying at a hospital the next day.
