Concrete Poured For First Of 75 Bus Stops Planned Throughout Round Rock

ROUND ROCK, TX — City crews have begun pouring concrete for one of 75 planned bus stops for expanded traffic service launching in August, officials said Thursday.

In a partnership with Cap Metro that kicks of Aug. 21, work is under way to create accessibility for transit service in Round Rock. Over the next six weeks, about 75 bus stops will be installed at locations throughout the city, including curbing, signage and sidewalks, officials said, adding the average site is 5 feet by 8 feet.

The service will be provided by Cap Metro through a contract with the city, with funding provided by Federal Transit Administration grants and the City of Round Rock, officials said.

“Thanks to city staff from the Transportation Department, we’re going to be ready to launch the service on Aug. 21,” Transportation Services Director Gary Hudder said. “It’s great to see tangible progress being made to provide our residents expanded transit services in the near future.”

The stops will be for Route 50, which will reach as far north as Round Rock Premium Outlets and south to Cap Metro’s Howard Lane park-and-ride station in Austin, and Route 51, an in-city circulator. Route 50 will make stops near Baylor Scott & White Medical Center Round Rock, Austin Community College, grocery stores, the Library and City Hall, among other locations. The route will utilize two standard-sized transit buses and will run hourly. Route 51 will circulate among employment, medical and housing centers in south and west Round Rock.

Both Route 50 and 51 will operate from 6:30 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. Monday through Friday. Both will originate from the Transit Center, 300 W. Bagdad Ave., in downtown.
