Coronavirus: 2nd Death Reported In Williamson County
Health officials said a man in his 50s succumbed to COVID-19 virus infection on Sunday as the illness count grows to 77.
WILLIAMSON COUNTY, TX — A second person in the county has died of coronavirus infection while another case of the illness has emerged, brining the total number of cases to 77.
The second fatality was described as a man oin his 50s. Citing privacy protection laws, Williamson County and Cities Health District officials said they were unable to release additional information.
“I extend my deepest sympathies and prayers to his family and friends,” County Judge Bill Gravell said in a prepared statement. Officials on March 28 revealed the first death of respiratory illness in the county, describing the victim as a man in his 70s.

Also on Sunday, Williamson County and Cities Health District officials revealed a new positive COVID-19 case emerged, bringing the total to 77. The count grew on Saturday after five new cases of COVID-19 infection were revealed on Saturday.

Health officials said additional COVID-19 deaths and cases will be reported on the dashboard located at www.wcchd.org/COVID-19/dashboard.php. The dashboard is updated just past noon daily. Cases in "Other cities in Williamson County" column are a combined total that include cities with populations below 20,000 and unincorporated Williamson to protect the privacy of residents.
According to the latest available dashboard data, Round Rock has had the most number of COVID-19 cases in the county, with 30. In Cedar Park and Leander there have been 11 and 10 confirmred cases respectively.
Those with symptoms of respiratory illness — including cough, fever and shortness of breath —are urged to contact their health care providers. It is important to call ahead before arriving at a clinic, urgent care or emergency department to avoid potential spread, officials added.
