Coronavirus Testing On Hold In WilCo After Backlog Of Applicants

Announcements will be made notifying the public when they can again request a free COVID-19 test from the County at www.wilco.org.

WILLIAMSON COUNTY, TX β€” County health officials on Wednesday said they are temporarily taking down an online testing portal for screening of the coronavirus after "overwhelming interest" essentially crashed the site.

"Due to the overwhelming interest in COVID-19 testing through Family Emergency Rooms, Williamson County is temporarily taking down the online testing portal from its website until the backlog of testing requests has been scheduled," officials said in an emailed advisory.

Announcements will be made notifying the public when they can again request a free COVID-19 test from the County at www.wilco.org, officials added.

The partnership between Williamson County and Family Emergency Rooms for COVID-19 testing has been "overwhelmingly successful," health officials noted. As of Tuesday, officials added, there have been 564 nasopharyngeal tests conducted, which have provided accurate testing results to concerned citizens.

Of those tests, there have been eight positive results, officials said, allowing the individuals to seek medical attention and quarantine to prevent the spread of the virus. In addition to the tests performed, there are approximately 350 more individuals scheduled for testing and more than a thousand in line to be scheduled, according to health officials.
