Coyote Bite Leads To $13K Hospital Bill For Round Rock Man
Bite victim told a news station he initially received an estimate of $953 only to be sent a bill for medical treatment that exceeded $13K.

ROUND ROCK, TX — A Round Rock man who sought treatment for a coyote bite last month has been bitten in the wallet with emergency room bills surpassing $13,000 for rabies treatments, according to a published report.
Steve Robinson told KXAN he was working on his car when he felt something biting his foot before looking up and seeing the coyote. After being admitted to the Baylor Scott & White emergency room, he told the news station, he received an bill estimate for $953.
The final bill — received after his final visit — ended up showing a balance of more than $20,000. After securing a discount, the patient was told they owed the hospital $13,000. Exacerbating the situation is the Robinson family's enrollment in Medi-Share, a Christian-based program where members share the cost of each others' medical bills, the station reported.

Baylor Scott & White officials explained the discrepancy between the initial estimate for medical services and the final bill, telling the news station that "...because of the complexity and numerous factors involved with emergency care, it is challenging to provide a comprehensive estimate of total costs."
Hospital officials added that financial assistance and interest-free payment plans are available to those unable to pay their medical bills in full.
