Ex-Williamson County YMCA Bookkeeper Charged With Embezzlement
Cynthia Adams, 52, of Austin is accused of taking more than $21,185 from program designed to assist employees facing financial hardships.

WILLIAMSON COUNTY, TX ― A former bookkeeper at the YMCA of Greater Williamson County has been charged with embezzlement to the tune of more than $21,000, according to a published report.
Cynthia Adams, 52, of Austin is accused of taking $21,185 from the organization, according to an arrest affidavit referenced by the Austin American-Statesman. Adams is said to have confessed to the theft two days after the group's chief executive contacted police on Feb. 20, according to the report.
Before the embezzlement was discovered, Adams oversaw the processing of checks for an internal program designed to provide emergency funds for YMCA employees, the affidavit noted. The way it typically works is employees are able to pay off the borrowed amounts over time via deductions from their monthly pay, according to the document.

Adams has been charged with theft, a state jail felony punishable by up to two years in jail. She was booked into Williamson County Jail before being released Sunday on a $10,000 bail, although it's unclear what funds she may have used to bond out.
