Frisco: Two Mosquito Pools Test Positive For West Nile Virus; City To Treat, Increase Surveillance
No human cases of the virus are confirmed in Frisco. These 'positive' pool confirmations bring the total to fourteen in Frisco this year.

The City of Frisco will treat for mosquitoes after receiving confirmation that two mosquito pools tested βpositiveβ for West Nile Virus (WNV). As a result, the city is increasing surveillance efforts and using larvicide as necessary where stagnant water or larvae are observed in public areas along Panther Creek Parkway and Teel Parkway in the Grayhawk Community (see map PDF); and between Legacy Drive and Teel Parkway, south of Main Street in the Village Lakes Community (see map PDF).

The City of Frisco supports four precautionary habits, commonly referred to as the 4Ds, promoted by the Texas Department of State Health Services.
o DEET: Use approved insect repellents every time you go outside. Approved repellents contain DEET, picaridin or oil of lemon eucalyptus. Follow label instructions.

o DRAIN: Drain standing water that collects in bird baths, French drains, clogged gutters, saucers under potted plants and βsplash blocksβ (at end of gutter down spout). The mosquitoes that carry WNV can breed in stagnant water.
o DRESS: Wear long sleeves, pants at dawn and dusk (when mosquitoes are most active).
o DAWN/DUSK: Use air conditioning. Make sure doors and windows are screened β and those screens are intact.
