Good Drivers Getting Rewarded by Williamson County Deputies This Holiday

Williamson County deputies will be handing out gift cards to good drivers until the new year.

ROUND ROCK, TX - In a true story of holiday cheer, Williamson County Sheriffs are rewarding drivers for their good behaviour, instead of handing out tickets.

Deputy Antonio Lovato turned on his lights and pulled over a passing car Wednesday, KXAN reported.

β€œThe reason I’m making contact with you today, is because you were going the speed limit,” Lovato said.

The driver, Amber Wheatley, said she was confused at first because she hadn’t been doing anything wrong. She was surprised when the sheriff handed her a $25 gift card to WalMart.

β€œSo if you have anymore last-minute Christmas shopping to do, or get some extra food,” the deputy said, KXAN reported.

The cards are donations from the Brown Santa program, which helps provide gifts to families around the holidays.

β€œI’ve never received anything other than a citation from a police officer, so it was a great surprise, a blessing,” driver Robert Verastegui told KXAN.

Deputy Lovato said the sheriff’s plan to continue handing out rewards for good driving until the new year.
