Laura Barker Wins County Court-at-Law No. 2 Runoff Election

Not all votes were in Tuesday night, but Barker had commanding lead over opponent Warren Oliver Waterman, all but ensuring victory.

WILLIAMSON COUNTY, TX -- Laura Barker beat Warren Oliver Waterman in Tuesday's Republican runoff race for the County Court-at-Law No. 2 post, according to a published report.

The Austin American-Statesman called the vote last Tuesday, even though all the votes have yet to be counted.

Final results weren't expected until Wednesday morning. Connie Watson told the newspaper that voting machine malfunctions prevented elections officials from getting the vote count at two of the 100 polling site.

Still, Barker's commanding lead all but assures her victory. With 98 percent of the votes counted, Barker secured 62 percent of the vote versus Waterman's 38 percent.

Assuming she wins the race, Barker will replace former Judge Tim Wright since there was no Democrat in the race, the newspaper noted. Wright stepped down after he pleaded guilty last year to selling firearms without a license and other related charges.
